Paneer and Green Peas Pulao

Paneer and green peas pulao is yet another one pot meal with soft and spongy paneer cubes,plump green peas with the flavor of kasoori methi and other spices.This pulao is a good option for lunch box and it tastes good as such or simple onion raitha is the best combo.Try out this delicious,flavorful pulao and here goes the recipe......

Ingredients

IngredientQuantity
Paneer(cubes)20 pieces
Basmathi rice11/2cups
Green peas(cooked/frozen)1/2cup
Onion2no.(medium size)
Tomato2nos.(medium size)
Green chilly4nos.
Ginger&garlic paste2tsp
Red chilly powder1/2tsp
Coriander powder3/4tsp
Garam masala powder1/4tsp
Turmeric powder1/8tsp
Kasoori methi1/2tsp
Lemon juice1tsp
Corianderleaves(chopped) as needed
Saltto taste
Oil/ghee1tbs

For the seasoning
IngredientQuantity
Cumin seeds1/2tsp
Cloves(lavangam)3nos.
Cinnamon2nos(1 inch piece)
Star anise2nos
Bay leaf1no.
Cardamom(ellakai)2nos.

Method

                            Soak the basmathi rice for 15 minutes and cook it with 13/4 cups of water and separate the grains,keep aside.Fry the paneer cubes to a golden color with a tsp of oil and set aside.
Keep oil in a pan with medium heat,crackle the cumin seeds and other spices given in the table for the seasoning.Add the onion and slit green chillies,saute with a dash of salt till transparent.Once the onion is done add the ginger&garlic paste,fry it for a minute then tomato and cook it mushy.
Now add all the powders and salt and stir it well.Then add the green peas and 1/2 cup of water and cook in a low flame for 2 minutes.
At this stage add the fried paneer and kasoori methi,mix it well till everything blends.Finally add the coriander leaves and turn of the stove.
Add the cooked rice to this mixture,mix it well and add a tsp of lemon juice,coriander leaves.
Paneer and green peas pulao is ready.

  • Frying the paneer is purely optional or the paneer cubes can be soaked in warm water and used.
  • Using of ghee gives a very nice fragrance to the pulao.
  • If you are using frozen peas or fresh peas the add it with onion and saute.
  • Fried cashwes can be added for garnishing which gives extra rich taste.
  • Other veggies such as capsicum,carrot and  beans can also be added.

Simple Tomato Pulao/Rice


I have posted my tomato and green peas pulao with coconut milk but today's recipe is a simple yet quick version of tomato rice.
As we liked the flavor and taste of this rice,my mom used to make this pulao for our lunch box atleast weekly twice along with some simple potato fry or raw banana fry.Now my son is a great fan of this rice and likes to have it with chicken fry.Here is the recipe for simple and flavorful rice..........

Ingredients


IngredientQuantity
Basmathi rice1cup
Onion1no.(medium size)
Tomato3nos.(medium size)
Green chilly5nos.
Curry leaves1sprig
Garlic(thinly sliced)3-4 cloves
Mint leaves10nos.
Coriander leavesas needed
Chilly powder1/2tsp
Coriander powder3/4tsp
Gram masala powder1/8tsp
Oil+ghee11/2tbs
Saltto taste
For the seasoning
IngredientQuantity
Cloves3nos.
Cinnamon1inch piece
Cardamom1no.
Bay leaf1no.
Fennel seeds1/2tsp
Star anise1no.


Method

                             Soak the basmathi rice in water for 15 minutes and cook it along with a  pinch of salt and a tsp of oil.Once the rice is done spread it on a plate and let it cool.
Heat a pan with oil and ghee and do the seasoning with the whole garam masala and cashews.Add the onion,green chilly,garlic,curry leaves and saute till transparent with a pinch of salt.Now add in the finely chopped tomatoes and cook it mushy.
Once the tomatoes are cooked add the powders and fry it for a minute,sprinkle 2tbs of water and cook it till the raw smell goes away.Add the coriander leaves and give it a mix.Put off the stove.
 Now add the cooked rice and mix it gently and turn on the stove and keep the mixed rice in a low flame for 5 minutes covered with a lid to incorporate the flavors.
Serve it with raitha,chips or fry.

Enjoy......................................

  • A tsp of ginger&garlic paste can also be added for extra flavor.
  • Fresh or frozen peas can be used and some times I puree the tomato and added.

Mint and Green peas Pulao

This yet another simple and flavorful pulao in my kitchen which is a one pot meal ideal for lunchbox and parties.I have lot of mint plants in my backyard and before the peak winter starts I wanted to use the leaves.Yesterday I made this pulao and here follows the flavorful recipe.........


Ingredients

Basmathi rice11/2cups
Onion(thinly sliced)2nos.(medium size)
Ginger&garlic paste11/2tsp
Green peas1/2cup
Garam masala powder1/2tsp
Lemon juice11/2tsp
Cashews(broken)2tbs
Saltto taste
Oil+ghee1tbs
To Grind
IngredientQuantity
Mint leaves1cup
Green chilly5-6nos.
Coconut(grated)2tbs
To Season
IngredientQuantity
Cloves(lavangam)3nos.
Cinnamom(pattai)1 inch piece
Star anise1no.
Bay leaf1no.
Cardamom1no.


Method

                               Soak the basmathi rice for 15 minutes and grind the mint leaves,green chillies and coconut to a fine paste.
Heat a pressure pan with oil and ghee,season it with the spices given "to season".Add the cashews and fry the onion till transparent,then ginger&garlic paste.
Now add the ground paste,garam masala powder,saute it for a minute till the raw smell goes off.
Add 13/4 cups of water and let it boil,once the water is boiled add the soaked rice and green peas,cook it for one whistle in a medium flame.Then keep it in the low flame for 5 minutes.Open it after the pressure subsides and finally add the lemon juice and fluff it with a fork gently.
Serve it with raitha,pickle or chips.

Enjoy.......
  • Instead of using ginger&garlic paste it can be grind along with the mint leaves.
  • Coconut milk and tomato can also be added for extra rich flavor and taste.
  • Some times I add coriander leaves along with the mint leaves.

Tomato and Peas Pulao

                           Wish you all a very Happy New Year

Hope everyone is in holiday and new year mood,after a week of baked goodies for the holidays,today I am back with a rice dish.This is yet another colorful rice with the ripe tomatoes and plumpy green peas with the flavor of coconut milk,which is a one pot meal.Its a good option for lunch box with simple raita,potato fry or chips,home made fryums.Now on to the recipe of mildly tangy tomato pulao....

Ingredients

IngredientQuantity
Basmathi rice11/4cups
Tomato5-6nos(medium size)
Green peas(soaked)1/2cup
Onion(thinly sliced)2nos.
Ginger&garlic paste1tbs
Green Chilly 5-6nos.
Chilly powder1/2tsp
Coriander powder1/2tsp
Garam masala powder1/4tsp
Turmeric powder1/4tsp
Thick coconut milk1cup
Mint leaves10-15 leaves
Coriander leaves(chopped)as needed
Saltto taste
Ghee1tbs
Oil1tbs
For seasoning
IngredientQuantity
Cloves(lavangam)4nos.
Cinnamon2 inch piece
Star anise2nos.
Fennel seeds(sombhu)1/2tsp
Cardamom(elakkai)2nos.


Method

                            Soak the rice for 30 minutes,heat a pressure pan or cooker with oil and ghee,season it with the ingredients given for seasoning.Saute the onion and green chillies with a pinch of salt to transparent then ginger and garlic paste.Now add the mint and tomatoes,cook till mushy.
Add all the powders,salt and stir it for a minute then add the soaked rice,mix it everything gets mixed well.
Now add the coconut milk and 11/2 cups of water,allow it to boil.
Once its boiled add the green peas and coriander leaves,cover it with the lid and keep it in a medium flame for one whistle.Then keep it in the low flame for 5 minutes and turn off the stove.Open the lid after the pressure subsides and gently mix it.
Serve it with raitha or chips.
  • Tomatoes can be pureed in the blender and used,ripe tomatoes gives nice color and taste to this recipe.
  • Cashews can also be added while sauteing the onions which gives extra rich taste.
  • A tsp of lemon juice can be added for extra tangy taste.

Tawa Pulao/Tava Pulao


For the day 2 of blogging marathon #47,sharing you a simple and flavorful tawa pulao.
Tawa pulao is an easy to make rice variety and a great option to use the left rice.
The highlight of the recipe is the use of pav bhaji masala which gives a nice flavor and taste to this recipe.As this rice i z mild its ideal for kids lunch box also.Off to the recipe..............







Tawa Pulao/Tava Pulao

 
   Basic Information

    Preparation time 10 minutes
    Cooking time 30 minutes
    Serves 2

  

   Ingredients


Ingredient

Basmathi rice
3/4 cup
Carrot,beans,capsicum(chopped)
1 cup
Onion(sliced)
2 (medium size)
Tomato(chopped)
1 (medium size)
Ginger&garlic paste
1 tsp
Red chilly powder/milagai podi
1/4 tsp
11/2tsp
Turmeric powder/manjal podi
1/4 tsp
Green peas/pattani(fresh or frozen)
1/4 cup
Oil
11/2 tbs
Salt
1 tsp
Cumin seeds/jeeragam
1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves(chopped)
1-2 tbs
Lemon juice
1-2 tsp


  
   Method 
    
  • Cook the rice in a rice cooker  and once its done separate the grains.Heat a griddle with oil and crackle the cumin seeds,saute the sliced onion with a pinch of salt till it becomes transparent.Add in the ginger&garlic paste and fry it till the raw smell disappears.Now add in the chopped tomato and cook it till mushy.

  • Add the chopped veggies and peas and mix it well.At this stage add in chilly powder,turmeric powder and salt.Mix it well,add in around 1/4 cup of water and cook it in a low to medium flame for couple of minutes or till the raw smell goes off.Put off the flame.

  • Now add in the pav bhaji masala powder and give it a mix.Add in the cooked rice and chopped coriander leaves,lemon juice.Mix it well.Now put on the flame and keep in a low flame for 5 minutes.

  • Serve it warm with raita and pappad.
